The first version of Master Planner was the idea of Jim Ross, who needed a simple, whole-office scheduler as a managerial tool. It was developed into a powerful, general-purpose staff planner, using Microsoft's Visual Basic 5, by programmers Pauline Ross and James G Ross Jr. Version 2.0 was released in mid-1998, version 2.1 in November 1998, version 3.0 in February 2000, version 3.1 in December 2000 and version 3.2 in October 2001. Master Planner was then rewritten in Borland's Delphi 7 for speed and easier maintenance; the Standard version of Version 4 was released in February 2005, and the Network version in August 2005.
